New Kid Rock Beer Boosts Michigan Economy The Detroit rocker's brew could provide nearly 400 new jobs.
move over, President Obama -- Kid Rock has a stimulus plan that's guaranteed to save the economy: getting drunk!
The Michigan Brewing Company received a tax credit (valued at $722,957) this week to produce a craft beer line for Mr. Bawitdaba himself. The company, a brewery that makes local beers like the Peninsula Porter and the Superior Stout, will invest $7 million in the new brand, which will create an expected 394 new jobs for the state, including positions in sales, packaging, and production.
While the beer's name, style, and pricing have yet to be decided, rest assured that Kid is exercising his own quality control on the bailout brew. "He's working on designing the beer, he's giving me direction, he's tasting the beers," Michigan Brewing Company owner-brewer Bobby Mason told the Free Press. "It's his idea, it's his concept. I'm just working with him to make it happen."
Mason hopes to sell 100,000 cases a year of the Kid Rock beer, which he plans to have in stores this spring, and is open to expanding the brand. "It'll be one beer starting out and we'll just see where it goes from there."
Meanwhile, in non-brew news, Kid Rock, who recently performed at the 51st Grammy ceremony, has only one scheduled U.S. performance -- a show at Indio, CA's Stagecoach festival, April 26. The festival takes place on the same site as Coachella, and follows one week later.
