NHL.com caught up with Kid Rock earlier this afternoon and had a chance to ask the Michigan native some fans’ questions. Below are his answers – thanks to all who posted and thanks again to those who continue to visit the page. Check back soon to see an exclusive article on Kid Rock, on his interest in hockey and some parallels he shares with NHLers, and if you haven’t already, check out a tune from his latest album, Amen.
I am curious about your upcoming concert plans in ‘08…I loved the intimate feeling at the Aragon Ballroom …brilliant plan for the fans, that rocked…can we expect ( look forward ) to more of the same?
That was a 12-city club tour, mostly to dip our toe in the water because we haven’t played in small clubs like that in 10 years, and we’ll be back in the arenas in January, gearing up to get ready for the summer. As far as returning to the clubs, I think I’ll just mix it in. I would actually love to throw them in now and then, it’s so fun to be on top of the crowd and connect with people.
I’m sure other musicians will tell you, it’s an amazing feeling to be on top of the crowd and feeding off that energy. So yeah, I’d love to do it again. It’s just one of those things that’s not about the money. It’s music and it’s just having a good time.
What is your fav memories of the 1997 Red Wings Stanley Cup Championship games (swept in 4)? What do you think the Wings chances are of bringing the Cup to hockeytown this year?
I remember watching all the games but not specific moments – I can barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday – but I remember being a part of it as a fan. Even more so when they won it a few years later, it was such a great celebration. I remember, I told the guys, you bring that cup home and I’ll play a show for you, so when they won it, they were like “Kid, you playing for us or what?”
And who’s your favorite player of all time?
Yzerman, that’s a gimme.
What inspired you to make that song like did something inspire you to write it or did it just come into your head?
I just kinda wanted to write something relevant, to be a voice for the people that aren’t being heard right now. That song is the real people of this country, the people in the middle. I’m so tired of political correctness, the far left and the far right, and this song was my way to say something that was on a lot of people’s minds, I think. That’s what it was meant to do, to be that voice that’s not being heard.
