CORPUS CHRISTI — All-American bad boy rocker Kid Rock will bring his brand of redneck rap to town April 30.
His Rock ‘N’ Roll Revival Tour will stop at Concrete Street Amphitheater, officials said.
With an album on store shelves featuring the hits “Amen” and “So Hott,” Kid Rock, aka Robert James Ritchie, has toned down his signature flashy persona and entertainment such as caged women in exchange for what critics are describing as a concert of hip-hop, old school rap and classic country music. In fact, Reverend Run of Run DMC fame will be here. Guests along the tour also have included Dickey Betts of The Allman Brothers Band. Instead of performing as opening acts, Run and Betts have performed with Kid on stage.
An expanded 11-piece Twisted Brown Trucker Band promises to liven up the performance, or at least monopolize the stage.
“The production and the stage is going to be bigger than what anyone has seen here in a while,” said Daphne Martin, Concrete Street marketing director.
“Rock N’ Roll Jesus,” Kid Rock’s most recent album, was released in October and landed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with hit singles “Amen,” a celebration song about counting one’s blessings, and the rockin’ “So Hott,” which celebrates, um, women.
The Detroit native has released eight albums since his debut “Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast” rocked the ears of fans in 1990. The bad boy is remembered for his short-lived marriage to actress Pamela Anderson and his highly publicized tendencies to stir up off-stage fights. During the holidays, Kid Rock took part in a USO tour to Iraq alongside actor Robin Williams and supercyclist Lance Armstrong to perform for troops. He continues to show his patriotism through show-opening performances of the national anthem and his rendition of “Born in the USA.”
Tickets are not yet on sale and will be announced within the next few days, Concrete Street officials said. At that time, tickets for general admission, reserved seating and premium standing areas will be available.
